| Potpourri Salt Dough 1 cup salt 1 cup flour 1/2 cup liquid potpourri scent (more may be needed based on the flour used) Food Coloring (optional) Mix the flour and the salt together in a large bowl. Put on kitchen gloves before continuing! Add food coloring and liquid potpourri. Begin kneading the dough on a floured surface until it is smooth and elastic and no longer sticky. If the dough is too dry, add more liquid potpourri, a few drops at a time. Shape the dough into a ball and wrap it in a plastic film in order to prevent it from drying. The dough is now ready to be used. Air drying Air drying works well if you roll out the dough to 1/2" thickness and cut with cookie cutters. Let the objects dry for approximately one week before painting or varnishing. Turn the pieces over daily to make sure they dry evenly. Baking Baking works best with thicker pieces (1-2 inches or more in thickness). Bake the pieces on aluminum placed directly on the oven rack. Turn the pieces over each hour to ensure even drying. Begin baking at 150°F. After 30 minutes, increase the temperature to 200°F. You will need to estimate the baking time, the thicker the object, the longer it needs to dry. For each inch, bake approximately 1 hour at 200°F. Ovens may vary so check the pieces often. Notes:
